Locker Room

Locker Room

In this project case study, I will be sharing my experience designing a mobile app for a local fitness centre. The goal was to create an app that made it easy for gym-goers to view class schedules, book sessions, and sign up for classes with friends.

Throughout the design process, I focused on creating an intuitive user interface that would enhance the overall user experience and encourage engagement with the app.

Process

Breaking down the project

The design process for the fitness centre mobile app involved several key stages. Firstly, I conducted extensive user research to understand the needs of gym-goers and identify pain points with existing fitness apps. As a user of the application I also has insights into key problems I ran into.

Locker Room prides itself on bringing people together. However, there is no way to friend other members or see which classes friends have signed up for. Many of the pages in the original application appeared unnecessary and content could be condensed to shorten the process. Another issue was users were unable to see how many spots were left in a class which created confusion.

Building on strong foundations

Based on this research, I developed user personas and created wireframes to map out the app’s functionality and structure. From there, I created a high-fidelity prototype and conducted usability testing to refine the design and improve the user experience. The final design included features such as a friending other members, filtering classes by multiple options, and saving favorite classes.

Overcoming challenges

Locker Room requested many functionalities that needed to be included. Each feature affects multiple pages. I was able to determine after interviews which filters would help a wide variety of users; however, finding a way to include all of those filters along with different locations and deciding where to put them was a challenge.

Outcome

The final outcome of the fitness centre mobile app was a user-friendly and engaging digital product with a simple to navigate UI and UX that impressed users.

Users were able to easily view class schedules, book sessions, and track their favorite teachers' classes, all within a seamless and intuitive app experience.

As a result, the fitness centre saw an increase in customer loyalty and retention rate, and the app has become an important part of their overall customer experience.
